Mooli-Mirchi Achar

Winter has started to knock our doors and as a foodie I adore winter as it is the season of great produce, be it methi (fresh fenugreek leaves), gajar (carrot), gobhi (cauliflower), shalgam (turnips) or mooli (radish). As a child, after school, everyday, we would sit in our verandah, on our Manji (cot) and have raw mooli (radish) sprinkled with some chaat masala and relish it while soaking up the much needed sun in the chilly winters and of course take a nap after that 😀

Mooli-Mirchi Achar by Masala Monk

This pickle has my heart. It is not loaded with masalas (spices), so that one can taste the radish and hotness of green chilies. Radish and green chilies are dried in the sun, hand picked spices are dry roasted at home, ground to perfection and used in this pickle. Best quality raw mustard oil is used to make this pickle and sun cooked for a couple of days.

Relive the raw mooli sprinkled with some chaat masala days

Radish still has a bite to it making it texturally perfect when coated with spices and oil. If you like your pickle to be a little matured, just place the jar in sun for couple of days.
