There is no mass-production and there are no short cuts used while making our products. Each of our jars of love is packed at home, under the same supervision and care that is used for our own kitchens. We’re sure you’ll understand now exactly how our products differ from the ones available in the market. 🙂

We, at Masala Monk, inexorably believe that there’s nothing quite like the goodness of homemade food. The love, the dedication and the honesty that goes into homemade food cannot be replicated. So we bring to you a carefully curated collection of gifts. All the jars in this sampler box are homemade – with love, with the finest ingredients, and with honesty. You’ve not only received food, but you’ve also received a piece of someone’s heart. Use it well. Bon Appétit!

This gift box contains:
Instant Shikanji:
Shikanji or Shikanji, is what we call it at home, is a traditional limeade or lemonade made with some herbs and spices. As a kid, I would wait for school to end and as soon as I’d reach home, mom would be ready with a tall glass of Shikanji. What an ultimate summer cooler it was, and still is.

Shikanji is an excellent coolant. As the summer is setting in with soaring temperatures, this instant shikanji will keep the body cool and hydrated. This beverage will also prevent loss of sodium chloride and iron during summer due to excessive sweating.

Pink Hibiscus Lemonade:
And as the scorching sun blinds us to the world around us, the only recourse for those stuck in this heat is a fantasy of escape. A fantasy of a sun tempered by a balmy ocean breeze. Of hot sand but cool water. Of loungers shaded by wide, white umbrellas and tall glasses topped with cute, little coloured umbrellas. Of the azure and turquoise of the ocean and the green and olive of shady groves. Of flowers. Of Pinks. Of Lemonade.

Masala Monk makes the last three accessible with its hibiscus lemonade. Fragrant, flowery pink on ice – is there anything else as delightful in this torturous heat? So grab a book, pour yourself a cool, tall, pink one, and fantasize a bit more…

Punjabi Tari Masala

Punjabi Tari Masala by Masala Monk

“Tumhare ghar ke khane ki baat hi kuch aur hai!”, “isme daalte kya ho?” have been told/asked/complimented by friends and family a number of times. The secret is this flavourful blend of home-roasted and ground spices which I am now ready to share with foodies just like me.

Punjabi Tari Masala by Masala Monk

There was a lot of hard work done to achieve the above compliment, in selecting the spices, observing what flavour one spice gives, what benefit the other spice has. Numerous trips to Khari Baoli (Mecca of spices in Delhi) were made, all the masalas were separately dry roasted at home, examined for their aroma, ground and then mixed to make this Punjabi Tari Masala. This exercise was repeated quite a few times by myself my father for 6-7 months, to achieve the perfect colour, aroma, and flavour.

“Tari” is the gravy part of the Indian curries (especially North Indian). With this masala, you don’t need any other spice, not even salt. Just “bhunofy” your ginger-garlic-onions-tomatoes-green chillies with this masala and you have whipped up the most flavourful tari you will ever have. Use it generously (1-2 tbsp) in aalu matar, gatte ki sabzi, ghar wali chicken or mutton curry and even ghia, tori or in any other boring vegetables and turn them into flavour-bombs 😛

Note: Salt and red chillies have been kept at a moderate level, add more according to your taste.
