Description
Every weekend we spend with our in laws to break in the monotony of working days and get rejuvenated with nice sleep and hot piping idlis & vadas with rasam, podis and pachadis.
December being relatively hotter in Bangalore, my MIL scores starts preparing her pickles as monsoon lasts for long here and this is the time when she gets abundance of sunlight apt for her pickles. One fine morning I saw her sitting in the tiny portico with an aluminum colander filled with bright yellow lemons. She was patiently humming her fav. Carnatic music and peeling and squeezing the lemons one by one.
Out of curiosity, I asked her how special is her ‘Nimbekai Uppinakai’ from what we get up North. She had a slight smirk on the face and replied ‘my experience’ 😉 Oh well, after a little chit chat, she patiently taught me every step of making the pickle and the final outcome was very encouraging. The pickle turned out finger licking good!!!
That’s it that was the moment when I asked her if she would like to add this pickle in her esteemed list of products already available and she replied in Tamil saying ‘Why Not’. She definitely asked me to mention that this pickle is not only tasty to the buds but it also aids in digestion by increasing the secretion of saliva adding the health quotient.
Small Indian lemons with thin skin are sourced from our farms in Salem and pickled with an array of spices to give you a like, a tingling tongue, and a fall into the heavenly sensation of food coma… Err, in a good way! 😉
Please order a jar or two to taste the authentic ‘Nimbekai Uppinakai’ and thank the Masalamonk team later 😉
