Also known as Buransh in the native language, rhododendron flowers are a sign of hope for the locals. Its bloom states the end of the harsh mountain winters and the arrival of light and warmth. These super flowers of the mountains bloom only during February and March, in a temperate climate and alpine conditions. Rhododendrons are highly vulnerable to climate warming and some years it may not even last for two weeks.
The term rhododendron is derived from the Greek words, ‘Rhod’ meaning ‘rosy red’ and ‘dendron’ means ‘tree’. These elegant and vibrant bell-shaped flowers hold great significance to mountain life and their benefits clearly justify their importance. Buransh squash is a light herbal drink with a sweet and sour taste and is the most common welcome drink of the areas where the plant is found in abundance.

All you need to do is to add it to an equal proportion of water and chug away the summer whoos. You can also throw in some of your favourite cooling herbs like mint or lemongrass and whip up a delicious glass of rosy red summer cooler.

Shake bottle well, pour 60ml concentrate in a glass, pour chilled water mix well, top it with ice and enjoy.
